We go over tons of general AP Physics 1 study tips and test taking strategies to jumpstart your AP exam prep on your way to scoring a 5.

Here is a quick preview of some of the AP Physics 1 tips we go over:

0:00 - Introduction to 15 AP Physics 1 Tips: How to Get a 4 or 5

0:46 - 5 AP Physics 1 Study Tips for Home:
1. Practice and review your math skills.
2. Purchase a quality calculator that includes all of the common constants.
3. Understand the amazing and comprehensive equation table that the College Board provides for you here.
4. Memorize common physics formulas that are NOT on the equation sheet
5. Take the time to review fundamental physics concepts

3:56 - 5 AP Physics 1 Multiple Choice Study Tips
1. Draw diagrams for everything, especially problems involving force and vector algebra.
2. Read the question and ALL answer choices.
3. Master the relationship between work, energy and power—key concepts for the conservation of energy.
4. Answer every question, even guessing if you have to.
5. Focus the bulk of your practice on heavily-weighted topics:
For example, these topics appear the most in the multiple choice section.
- Energy (16-24%)
- Dynamics (12-18%)
- Mechanical Waves and Sound (12-16%)

6:57 - 5 AP Physics 1 FRQ Study Tips
1. Read through all 5 questions first and tackle the “easiest” one.
2. Support your answers with thorough explanations.
3. Understand the Task Verbs and do exactly as asked.
4. As you practice, read through the scoring guidelines thoroughly.
5. If you cannot do question (a) of a multi-part free response question, carry on!

The tips are great but I would make an updated video adjusting slightly since the curriculum changed vastly in 2020 I believe. Going over three practice tests, both MCQ and FRQ, I found that along with an Energy and Dynamics heavy test, Momentum, conservation of momentum, collisions, and the like replaced Sound and Mechanical waves as these topics have been removed from the course curriculum.

Additionally, going over practice tests in preparation for my own test, I found that these topics show up constantly on FRQ sections:

- A rotating body, describe its motion
- Collisions, conservation of momentum
- Kinematics, and Projectile motion ( I found these popular with experimental design questions)
- motion (there's usually at least part of an FRQ dedicated to this)
- Simple Harmonic Motion (again, shows up most of the time at least in part of an FRQ)

Other than small adjustments, thanks for the advice!

How do I explain to College Board that we’ve only learned 2 of the 8 units in the class?

Thank you, Albert, for the great tips. I am an aspiring meteorologist and plan on taking AP Physics I during my senior year in high school. I am studying for it ahead of time so I have a background knowledge before I actually get into the class.

Great tips! Do you have a video on tips or strategies for digital exam on June 9th, where students are not able to go back to the previous MCQs and FRQs?

USE KFES! Works for almost ANY MCQ or FRQ.

K - Write what you [K]now
F - Write what you need to [F]ind
E - Write any [E]quations that include variables from [K] or [F]
S - [S]olve dat thing
