The envelopes and portamento shape of Moog synths have a quality about them that is just so special. Elastic is the word I would use to describe them. They sonically bounce almost like a rubber ball. Between the warmth of the Moog filters and this bouncing quaility, I've always felt Moogs are the most acoustic sounding synths even without velocity or aftertouch modulation control.

Der Moog Prodigy war mein erster eigener Synthesizer. Es ist eigentlich unmöglich aus dem schlechte Klänge zu bekommen. Das liegt natürlich auch an den im Vergleich zum SCI Pro-One geringeren Modulationsmöglichkeiten. Und sein Sync Solo bei Howard Jones ist wohl das bekannteste Synthesizer Solo mit Sync überhaupt.

I had a chance to play one of these 16 years ago. All I can remember is that it sounded very good. When I saw your video, I had to click on it because I haven't heard one in a while. However, when I played it, I don't remember it having an overdrive distortion feature.or an arpeggiator. However, the raw tone of the oscillators and sound of the filter is very nice with lots of bottom-end too. It was a very enjoyable synth to play.

Ah yes, my first synth with the authentic and legendary Moog filter, of course very good for bass and filter sweep sounds, but I found the modulation capabilities a bit lacking. I think the only way to get a sync sweep was to use the pitch wheel, right? I can't remember anymore, but I think it didn't have any PWM abilities either, and back in the 80s when I borrowed this synth, I really digged PWM, so, I have to confess, I ditched this synth. Haven't had the chance to play it again since then :-(

This demo reminds me of the earliest non-keyed synths, where sound generation was effected solely through the manipulation of knobs. Personally, I didn't find the works created with those "instruments" to be very enjoyable, do to the inherent lack of lead melody. However, I find ones like that presented here to be a wonderful experience... if one lends their mind to it. ;)
