Simple Math Tutorial What are angles
Показать описание
----------------------------------------------------
Angles are a measure of how far something has turned, or pivoted around a point.
Why are angles important?
Measuring angles allow us to express these turns easily and accurately. This is important for different reasons, including:
They allow us to create accurate tools e.g. analog clock faces; and
they can be used to measure and report inclines and declines e.g. in roads. There are many different types of angles, but this video is focused on the very basics - the components of ANY angle: arms and vertices.
What are arms and vertices?
When two lines intersect, they form an angle. The two lines are referred to as arms, and the point of intersection is the vertex (roll over the image below to see). Vertices is the plural for vertex.
When more than two lines come together, there are multiple intersection points. Each intersection is referred to by the names of the lines that create it. The angle or vertex of interest is always in the middle (as in the video), and the other letters are either always in clockwise or anticlockwise direction.
You can turn the captions / subtitles on and off in the bottom right hand corner.
