The video shows Simultaneous Localization and Mapping with a mobile robot using a Rao-Blackwellized Particle Filter (each particle builds its own map). Scan Matching is used to sample the particles to get a much sharper particle distribution than by sampling from the motion model. The map building is delayed to prevent the particles from evaluating and resampling before entering previously visited areas. The video is four times as fast as normal, in reality the robot is not that fast.
