I don’t know why people think your ability to physically keep up with the violin doesn’t fade as you become of old age. Mr. Mintz doesn’t need to prove anything to us. He’s made his mark and we should respect him.

The young Shlomo Mintz was a marvel of technical skill and a gifted musician. It is very sad indeed to see and hear what has become of him. He is dragging, the bow arm is a mess, contact with the string suggests way too much pressure, and as a result the tone production is uneven. And then there is the question of the music: where is it? What happened to Saint-Saens' dancing, sprightly score; instead of "gratioso" and "sprezzatura" we get a plodding, note-by-note account. What a mess!

He should stay in Slomo Mintz instead of hurting his instrument, the violin is not singing anymore....
