Hawkins Mutes // Mute Monday Episode #50

Hawkins Mutes is a brand new company out of the UK with with an exciting mute line-up. In this video I review the Cup Mute, Straight Mute, and Piccolo Trumpet Straight Mute.

Designed by trumpeter turned french horn player / serial inventor Tony Hawkins in Cambridge, these unique mutes are 3D printed and aim to bridge the gap between the more traditional metallic and fiber/wood mutes that are already on the market.

Quick note - the "close-up" shot of the straight mute for Bb/C and Picc were accidentally swapped in the edit, so keep that in mind!

Very cool designs. I love that they were 3D printed. I imagine we will be seeing more such coolness in the future. I also like the sounds of these mutes. The many facets seem to add some edges (no pun intended) to the output. I'm trying to hear the edges, I'm trying to discern them if I can.
