Pragmatism is a philosophy whereby the ends justify the means. Appeals to pragmatism involve the tautology ‘it works because it works’ and pragmatists make use of this recursive definition by its own function to demonstrate that an occurrence exemplifies its own reason.

In short, a pragmatist (who might call themselves an empiricist) might say ‘I take each thing as it comes and do what is necessary as dictated by evidence’. On closer inspection one may see this statement is completely empty.

The reason for this is that pragmatism pretends to be its own purpose just as empiricism pretends to be its own evidence. Pragmatism takes ‘what works’ and establishes itself as the beginning and the end of what elucidates that. It is “an approach that evaluates theories or beliefs in terms of the success of their practical application“.

Hence, pragmatism is perpetual mental masturbation - if something does something then that something is what it was meant to do.

In pragmatic terms, genitalia are justified by their performance. That performance might be entirely personal. In that case that is their purpose. Once a function has been found there is no reason to reconsider - that wouldn’t be pragmatic. What works works. Why does it work that way? Because it does, so that’s what it’s for.

Pragmatism is the opposite of faith. Pragmatism demands that your eyes must first see and verify it to be so. Faith is believing without seeing that what God said is True simply because He said it.
