The way your videos most changed my life is that they led me to a much deeper appreciation of Dvorak. I knew and admired the last three symphonies, the cello concerto, and the American Quartet..and that was pretty much it. Your talk on the Fifth Symphony led me to discover what a magnificent piece it is, and that led me to other works--including these. He is at the very top tier of composers.

Dave, you have to be a bionic man. You're churning 'em out like a machine.

Wonderful works, both! There is another terrific recording of these on Naxos with the Tempest Trio and they have since released a CD with 1 and 2. Dvorak’s chamber music is so marvelous!

I love Dvorak’s Trios, especially, No.4, “Dumky”. I’ll be listening to this!

Don't have a go-to bedside pile like you, Dave, but I do have a set of discs that I always need to keep close "at hand, " and the F minor Trio has long been one of them. Never looked farther than the Chung family recording I got 30-some years ago (Trios #1 and #3)--beautifully played, with sweep and color and rhythmic verve. But the piece, yes, it's a real marvel: full to the brim with gorgeous tunes, emotional expressiveness, just great memorable music.

As you said, it’s good to have both No. 3 and No. 4 in one disk. They are very different from each other and even I noticed the wide range of variety that Dvorak can offer. Mines are Suk trio and Tempest trio. I’ll consider Tetzlaff, Tetzlaff and Vogt.

Dave, great recommendation! The Brahms Piano Trios of Tetzlaff, Tetzlaff and Vogt are magnificent too. Thank you.

OH GOD yes - the Dumky Trio is so beautiful and moving I can hardly get my head around it! It is a truly emotional experience. There are a lot of great recordings - none I have heard are disappointing but his one I agree is quite exceptional.

The third is good too. I will have to give it a more studied listening based on your video. Hard to break away from the Dumky!

Wonderful recording and works. Thank you, Dave. What do you think of the Fontenay recordings of his trios and particularly the Dumky?

Speaking of Brahms, which was written first, the F minor Trio or Brahms's piano quintet?
