Let's appreciate the fact that Narukami managed to react from an Ambush from a phantom thief who's speciality lies in ambushing enemies. Let's also appreciate Joker for managing to parry Sword attacks without his knife. 10/10 highlighting both leaders properly

So, context for this fight...

The reason Joker was scouting ahead is because a few seconds prior Futaba notified them (The Phantom Thieves) that a group of human's were approaching them at high speed. FEMC who was among the PT's was concerned that it was her teammates whom she had been separated from, so Joker offered to scout ahead to confirm their identities with Morgana recommending he take his gun with him to prevent them out of making any pre-emptive attacks against him, I.E: He never intended on causing harm. As for Yu Nurakami the reason he was charging ahead is because Rise had been poisoned a few seconds prior to this scene and he was trying to find an exit to the world he and his team had been dumped in, so naturally seeing the dude with mask advancing towards his team opted to attack Joker in order to prevent his team mates from being harmed.

As for the fight itself, I will give Joker points for his adaptability as after he knocked back he was able to very quickly adjust his stance and force Yu to block by pistol whipping his katana. What's really impressive about this is that Jokers move was simply a feint to get the gun in position towards Yu's head. However, I'll also note that Yu managed to adjust to Jokers stance as well by shifting from one handing his katana, to two handing it which got him in position for a death strike at Joker.

And the result I'd say is a draw, both showed great skill. Joker could've won if his gun was real, Yu could've won if he knew that it wasn't. Joker wasn't intending on causing harm, and Yu "claims" he wasn't either but I'd say if you blindside someone with a Katana you at least trying to dismember them.

People like to say that Yu was holding back but the swiftness of that strike meant he at least had the goal to dismember, yet there’s Joker parrying it with a toy gun.

An underrated game in the series, it really an shame that it came out at the end of the 3ds, where people are now on the switches. I know fans wanted P5 on switch but why not Q 1+2 for it, be alot better

Honestly, I'm more Impress with Yu here than Joker.

Because if you think about it, the Cinema world is similar to the Metaverse. So, while the guns don't work in the Cinema, Joker and Co. can still move as they did in their Metaverse to a certain extent. An example is at the beginning of this video and when they stole the statue in the previous dungeon.

So the fact that Yu, who has no knowledge of how the Metaverse works, can keep up with Joker, who is more experience in that world, and end it in a draw is more impressive than Joker's gun parry.
