theoretically, can you put a small temperature reader on a drone and be able to fly 200ft up and see the temperature up there?

I'm studying dragonflies in my 7th-grade class and wondered if you use the ideas of their hygroreceptors for your drones. If so, why should they even have to fly in the atmosphere? can they not stay on the ground like a dragonfly does?
