The very front room. Or hot room as you call it. Is excellent for growing plants. Something you might want to keep in mind.

Canadian Basements in Ontario are our best kept secret. Typically with little or no heating or cooling they stay at a very nice temperature in the winter and summer.

As I understand it, the reason some places have basements is that they needed a place to put the furnace, and a basement is a great place to put a furnace. I believe this because in places where they don't need furnaces they generally don't have basements.

Congratulations on your new home. That first room is normally called a 'Mud Room' in Canada, so you can take your snowy boots off. We don't hear that term so much on Vancouver Island as some winters we dont get any snow! Unusual for homes here not to have built in closets, is it an older home? Looks really nice though! Your basement 'living room' is normally called a rec room here. Another difference with houses out here is that our basements arent as deep. One corner of our house is about three ft below but in the other corner, we can walk straight out, we're on a bit of a slope. (I moved from Wales in the 70s! ) Your first 'frames across' is a bit Canadian. !
