LIN Controlled Alternator Repair Secrets Revealed

In this video I explain how to use an oscilloscope to diagnose LIN-BUS on charging system. On this Ford Fiesta, alternator is controlled by ECM through LIN (Local Interconnect Network). In this video I show you how I read the LIN BUS waveform and how to analyze it to find a fault on this network. I used a Launch Scopebox on this video.

Excellent video on communication line data traffic. Seeing the regulator module disconnected and reconnected on waveform makes the difference very clear, and you can see the PCM is doing most of the talking.

I've had some cases with only one wire on the alternator connector and I was always wondering why one wire only! Now I know that one wire is network, thank you my friend, very helpful video for me.

Love your channel. So much useful videos.
I have the same one wire LIN bus setup on my Renault alternator and i just had a problem with the alternator not charging anymore (engine running and my cigarette lighter volt-meter was not reporting above aprox 12 V). I disconnect the LIN wire from the alternator and the charging went back to aprox 14 V.
Now, is this sufficient to conclude that the alternator is not the problem and leave as "suspect" a wire problem or the UPC (on Renault that module is controlling the LIN to alternator, not the ECM)?

I also have an oscilloscope and i will do the proper test on the network but only based on this single evidence is save to asume the alternator is ok?

Pretty good video for a beginner series as this video does not explain the Header signature, you did mention a slave but did not go into depth on that as there appears to only be one slave on the Header signature anyway. I see another link in your comments so I will go check it out as well. Cheers

1. I believe that the upper voltage level may change if car is started or charger is connected, but the lower part of lin signal (around 800mv) should not change.
2. The Lin signal kind of becomes dense or more close to each other while the disconnected connector is plugged again as now there is more information is flowing. Am i right sir?
Thankyou for the great video.
