U.S. President Joe Biden stumbled over his words during a news conference with the Finnish President Sauli Niinisto on Thursday (July 13), confusing Ireland with Iceland in a mistake he described as a "Freudian slip".
The President - who has family roots in Ireland - joked that he had made the mistake because he was "thinking of home".
Biden was in Helsinki to participate in a summit with the leaders of Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Norway. He came directly from this week's NATO summit held in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he said Russia's invasion of Ukraine had only made the alliance stronger.
