"If I just stick to hard surface, I won't have to learn good edge flow or topology!"

I'm a 3D noob and just finished the infamous BBros Hard Surface course (robot arm)

It took me a while but it turned out pretty similar to the tutor's model.

Say what you want, topology purists, but non-destructive hard surface modeling with Boolean addons is pretty easy, also you can get fairly decent and complex NURBS models with Plasticity/Blender bridge real quick.

It's why I love hard surface modeling!

add a bevel and sub d modifier (bevel on top of sub d). Set bevel segments to 2 the amount to .003 (you can play with this value a little bit) and limit method to weight. Start selecting your edges you want sharper then hit n on the keyboard and turn the mean bevel weight to one. this should make any edges you you mark have a have a 2 segmented bevel which will let you cheat with the whole holding edges thing.

That's too much, for something round, 8 edge with 1/2 level subdiv is enough

Problem is ppl want to solve it in a hour when it takes days to reach something that pro.

Seems to me a skill issue here you suppose to sharpening those edges first rhen use subdivision and crease them plus not all of details have to come out of one mesh use shrinkwrap
