It's a great scale for giving a feeling of infinity, because the major third keeps it happy sounding, but there's no semitone taking it from the seventh into the octave, so it lacks that feeling of finality.

You just made me realize You Are the Sunshine of My Life has a whole tone part preceding the chorus.

it's also the third easiest scale to improvise in on piano after C and Am IMO

The whole-tone scale was one of Monk's favorite spices.

Spacelab by Kraftwerk. If I'm not wrong (or if I heard it right), it's the scale in intro arpeggios.

Isn't "Don Juan Triumphant" from Phantom of the Opera in whole tone scale?

David! I have a question thats been bugging me all my life and don’t even know how to phrase it correctly: musical themes we associate today with different topics, such this dream sequence, the west/cowboy soundtracks, spy music, ancient tribes music, etc.- were they born in hollywood (man made) or evolved from culture, or is it something in the key, chords and chord progression that assimilates to that theme?

debussy also used the whole tone scale a lot, for example Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun

Small nitpick, but I’d prefer to read note name by note name (convention usually asks this as well), so going from F# to Ab and Bb is quite weird to me. I’d much prefer to read G# to A#

How is that different from the pentatonic scale?
