You can use elimination with system of inequalities as long as you are ADDING and both inequalities have to face the same way.

We know that a >1 i.e. a is positive
And b < -1 i.e. b is negative.
So, a - b is the same as a +|b| which is positive and greater than 2
Since, |a| and |b| > 1

I haven't got to this topic in my studies for admission exams and I tried to just intuitively imagine them on a plane, and thought a and b would be between -1 and 1
