Here's a commercial for Towne Club Pop (a brand of soda sold in the Detroit, MI area and immediate surrounding environs), featuring the attractive spokeswoman offering a sale on their product which was advertised as lower in price than the national brands: buy a whole case of 24 12-ounce bottles at the regular low price, and get a second case for $1.99 plus deposit. Offer lasts to October 31st.

This aired on local Detroit TV on Saturday, October 23rd 1976.

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:

The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

I remember Towne Club as a kid!!! I grew up in Indianapolis, and my dad bought those drinks almost every week. Then it went out of business.

And I seem to recall the cheapest stuff was the fruit drinks that came in those plastic barrels with the foil tops.

I remember Towne Club from Michigan well. This is a Chicago Classics commercial youtube page. Did they have Towne Club in Chicago. I dont remember seeing it there. I remember Old Towne and Canfields as well as Wildwood but never Towne Club in Chicago.

I don't think we'll see those prices again

Used to love Towne Club. My parents would buy the variety cases for us kids so we wouldn't drink expensive pop like Coca-Cola. That way, they could save it for themselves.

It is ironic. I am drinking a bottle of Towne Clun Soda right now (the Michigan Berries flavor) and I got it at a local soda shop that sells over 800 bottles of soda from around the world. A soda lover's dream! Anyway, I paid $3.50 for one bottle. It's delicious though! I was just thinking it would make a good float, or even a slushie! 😋

Towne Club is being produced again, but only in limited flavors.

Were people so enamored with soda in the 70's that there were stores that only sold it?

Wooden pop crates. Get them before the antique stores eat them up.
