NOPE, you need the goddamn windows 8 installation disc to refresh.

I have 8.1. When I follow your instructions and start to refresh I get to the message that says....your pc settings will be changed back to defaults. Here is what to do afterwards. The first thing says go to the windows store to install 8.1 and your apps. My understanding is that 8.1 would still be there after the refresh. Am I missing something? Do I continue?

Hi Nick, This doesn't  work when 8.  is updated  to 8.1 as it updates without all the necessary iso...I  am referring to "refresh pc without affecting your files. Can you let us have some  info on this.

Could you put all your data on a USB stick reset it and put the USB stick back in after the reset then it will work?

I have an ASUS TP500L laptop. The sound from the speakers is cutting in and out. It seems to happen mostly during music where the sound would go up and down. It cuts out repeatedly. Sometimes it stays on, but usually only if people are talking with no other noise. Would this be a hardware issue (such as a short or something in the speakers) or a software issue? Plugging headphones in works like normal. But I don't want to always be using them.
