Do you really need a BMW M2? - M240i Review

Join me on today's video where I review the 2024 BMW M240i. This car boasts a massive 374bhp and 500nm from its 3.0 litre inline 6 B58 engine! The x-drive system in this car makes it an absolute animal off the line, all for a much lower price than its big brother, the M2. We're heading out on a drive with the owner Paul, who's kindly lent us the car for the video, to give you guys a better idea of long term ownership with the car.

I have an M2 and the feeling you get from this car is truly special (and if you care about it, the reactions you get from others is unlike I’ve experienced with any other car).

Just traded in my 2018 M2 Competition, for the M240i G42 xdrive. I loved my M2, but I went for the G42 because of 4x4 and what a fantastic car, it is. The power is unbelievable, and I’m pretty sure that the figures from BMW are understated. I love the idrive 8 system, and the interior is awesome; I got the thundernight metallic livery, and I’ve never had so many compliments for a car that I’ve owned. It certainly turns heads, and looks much more impressive live than in pictures; I couldn’t have made a better choice🔥

0-60mph is more realistically 3.8-3.9 seconds in this model. And it does it consistently 🔥

I own a B58 X3 and a G87. The B58 is a great motor when paired with adaptive suspension, XDrive and the M Performance diff. But the M2 is an absolute beast and so much fun.

In 2023 I ordered a Brooklyn Grey M240i xdrive with the M Performance Pack (larger staggered tires, larger front brakes, upgraded cooling) and, at the same time, a Brooklyn Grey M2. They both came into my AD at the same time. I chose the M240ix.

B58 has great fuel economy. It all about how you drive it. Any car used inly in town with use a ton of fuel. On a long run high 40mpg was easy.

I have the 2025 M2 on order and it was cheaper than a 240i because of the deal that was on so in every way, the M2 is the better option

I don't get why the passenger hasn't put his foot down in it. He should have saved his money and brought a 220i .

I had my M240i for over 4 mths now. It is not a fun car because it goes too fast to easy and it is so comfortable you can’t really feel the speed until you’ve glanced at the speedometer. On my previous car WRX although it is nowhere near in performance but at least I can feel the speed.

I’m getting 35mpg with stop start short journeys but when I first had it the mpg was in the 20’s. It takes a couple of thousand miles for the engine to settle down

Surprised at the mpg figure - mines is an F22 version which is drove fast and I can get 30mpg no problem - in fact my average over 30, 000 miles is 29mpg

If I didn't have to have one last convertible in the Z4 then this would be for me. Who knows going forward

Stick the B58 in a wooden shed on 4 wheels and it would sell in droves.
It's all about the engine.

The problem is weight. This car weighs within a piss of the M340, which I have. Love the B58 but having driven the M2 recently, the performance jump is significant. Roll on power isn’t close with the M2 pulling away immediately.
