Fixing Popped Ps Plosives P-Pops

A plosive is that annoying bass thump that happens when someone says a word that starts with P (and some times other words).

It's best to avoid them during recording but if they're in your tracks here's how to effectively remove them.

WORKED PERFECTLY ON A PAYING GIG! I hate using all-caps; this is a reflection of how grateful I am! Thanks!

I'm sorry I didn't see your comment earlier.

The mechanical pop you may be hearing is from cutting at a non-zero crossing spot. You can either add a small cross fade at your cut points or there's a Split items at prior zero crossing option in REAPER with ALT+Z as the default instead of the typical S keyboard shortcut (for splitting items/regions).

many thanks Will....
So much for plosives. Very instructive. Now what can we do to eradicate clicks in voice recordings : those produced by fricatives or tongue/teeth clicking during speech. When using cubase of course. Best, Ian Marshall

In short: use a highpass at 350Hz on only the P's and adjust the volume.

Thank you! If you have a Blue Snowball mic, it helps to stop plosives, too. I think it has a built-in pop filter

Is there any way to do this without having to edit each individual plosive? I'm editing a 90 minute podcast together and one of my tracks is filled with them. Editing them all would be my own personal hell.

Thanks for making this tutorial. I tried to do this last night in Reaper, and couldn't quite seem to get it to work. Are you splitting the track & dragging down to track 2, or -- ?? You say "cut" but when I tried to cut & drag down to a scratch track, I'm getting a mechanical "POP" in my vocal track now, even after adding EQ as you suggested. Pls advise - thx!

You rock because of this tip!!!! Thanks

If the clicks are before or after a word I just delete them. If during I'm not sure there's much that can be done.

This would actually be a good test for iZotope RX. I've gotten guitar string squeeks out of recordings with that program.

That will be helpful during editing. Though I'm looking to help soften them in my speech during recording so will continue to look around. Thank you though.
