Obviously a Joke, but I'm glad people are liking it.
A buddy of mine and I have always had a joke that you can take the first lyric of any song and sing it for the entire song in different ways, so after we make a record, I go into the vocal booth, and as a joke, sing a one take ad-libbed vocal and see what happens, and then, in this case, we went and did some three part harmony on it and “Parked Out by the Lake” was born from my song “Vacant Motel Heart” that Paul Jacobsen and I wrote. I never intend for anyone to ever hear them because they are just inside jokes and goofing around in the studio, but I’d show someone from time to time (thus the private SoundCloud link on a random account), But I’ve been getting a barrage of text messages lately etc, so thousands of people have now heard it some how through the spread of that private link. I’m glad people think it’s as funny as we did when we made it.

Dean Summerwind is Dustin's alter ego, sorta like Garth had Chris Gaines ;)

This video has it all. A truck. A lake. Parking.

I DJ’d for my cousins wedding. And during the intermission between the ceremony and the reception (during the time the wedding party took their photos) the groom made a very special request… To play specifically this song and only this song- on repeat. That intermission was an hour and a half long. The venue was a small pavilion. And the attendees had no shelter from the life long damage this song is capable of doing in that length of time. The glares we received from the families were incredible. What an honor it truly was.

I love this song, I just hate that he never tells you what he was doing, where he was, or at the very least how far he was from any large cities or landmarks.

This was actually his call to AAA for a tow.

"Some day I'm gonna move, but right now I'm parked" I feel that.

That frustrating moment when you're trying to reach the word count requirement on your English paper....

I LOVE the diverse lyrical creativity in this song. It really brings out the true lyrical potential of a song. In fact, it's so creative, it's diverse in nature. That's why it's potential brings out it's creativity.

This is pure gold. I like to play it for other people and see how long it takes them to realize.

When you’re happy, you enjoy the music. When you’re sad, you understand the lyrics😔

Statistically speaking, it's most likely that he's parked out by Heron Lake in New Mexico. Not only is it almost exactly 80 miles from downtown Santa Fe, but Santa Fe is also the closest major city so it makes sense for him to measure it from there, despite the distance. It's to the northwest btw (about 80 miles). Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Legends say he's still parked by the lake 80 miles from Santa Fe

This hits different when you're actually parked by the lake.

My wife never listens to lyrics so I’m going to see how long it takes for her to catch on!

I got this song in my normal country playlist in the truck. It comes on and people jam out to it for a minute or two before they're like WTF is this? hehehehehehehe

4 years later and it still sounds like every song on “country” radio.

I know you guys wrote this as a joke. But in doing so, you’ve created one of the most honest heartfelt songs ever made. Thank you.

It's the parking part that really hits me in the heart

There are those rare moments in music where the lyrics, music, and style of singing match perfectly that creates a song that we eventually describe with words such as "timeless", or "classic".
This masterpiece is one of those moments.
Pure gold.

This song always bring tears to my eyes. My Dad and I once parked by that lake and talked about Santa Fe. When he died we poured his ashes in that lake and then we parked, before we drove 80 miles back to Santa Fe.😢

Me and my group were roadtripping and took a detour just so we can be parked out by the lake 80 miles from Santa fe. Best part of the whole trip
