Homeschool Curriculum For Kids With Dyslexia

Today I am sharing my favorite homeschool curriculums for kids with dyslexia. We're going beyond reading (although we do cover that too) and talking about many other subjects and how to find the right curriculum for your special learner.

As a mom of 3 dyslexics. Your list was fabulous. I would add one thing… as a Spelling & Reading option… The Spell to Write and Read Program! It has worked miracles in my house! I will tell everyone… it is not “pretty” to look at… but is old school phonics that makes our confusing language… actually make sense!

🎉thank you for this! My son is newly diagnosed with autism and suspected dyslexia. So, I had not heard of snap words and the phonetic 📞. We ❤ all about reading so far but I like the info on right brain reading

All about reading wasn't working for my son with dyslexia but I found a free program. It comes with videos. The book is downloadable and it's called treasure hunt reading. It's not as overwhelming for my son as the fluency sheets in AAR.

We find that our kids are definitely below level in language arts and struggle with reading but other subjects can be below, on or above grade levels. Dyslexia affects reading and language arts!!! We find we need extra review with phonics all thru the schooling. Just at the start of our homeschool journey we spoke to a educator who works with dyslexics and he said approach everything with phonics work!!! We love hands on learning as well!!! Audio books help us and visual curriculum helps us!!! I use curriculum sometimes as reading practice and we do the lessons together!!! We love youversion got the audio and plans. We love their Audio plans!!!

What do you think about Logic of English compared to All About reading? I like how LOE has video lessons along with interactive app games.

We are going back to Story of the World again this year. Great video, sight words worked best for us too, as opposed to phonics.

Katie, I love your channel and videos! Do you have recommendations for dyscalculia or struggling math learners? My oldest has many signs of dyscalculia, and the mental math type curriculums we’ve tried have unfortunately not helped him make progress with beginning addition/subtraction facts.

Hi. I'm really considering homeschooling my child and my child has dyslexia. All of these options sound great and I'm just wondering how to start homeschooling and when I do, do I need to get all of these individually for each subject?

We love all about reading. You mentioned that you use teaching textbooks. We have used that as well. My son will be in 5th grade this year and he is doing well with the program, but my concern is that there are some learning gaps with this program. Seems like it may be behind and not on grade level. Have you also found this to be an issue? Because of this I am considering the good and the beautiful math (5th grade) or Saxon Math. Any experience with either of those curriculums?

Is all about reading considered a phonics program or ELA as well? My daughter is dyslexic and she had a hard time with explode the code. We purchased all about reading and will start it in a few days. If it’s not an ELA I was considering Christian light or Lifepac. But I am not sure if there is anything else that may work better.

What have you used to teach writing to your dyslexic kiddos? I have an almost 4th grader who has done AAR level 3 and AAS level 3. However, we have not even started writing instruction, because I am so overwhelmed with teaching it.

Type stories on computer with hollow letters and fill letters with sand or rice. They can feel the letters as they read especially the basic sight words. Teach sign alphabet for spelling words
