Most hindus don't know that the diwali was celebrated even before lord ram was born, it became a symbol of victory of good over evil because it was also the day when lord ram returned to Ayodhya but even before that the diwali had always been celebrated. That is also the reason why lord ram and mata sita are not worshipped on diwali instead mata lakshmi and lord narayana as lakshminarayana are worshipped in south meanwhile lord ganesha, mata lakshmi and mata saraswati are worshipped in north.

Lakshmi did NOT incarnated as radha she incarnated as rukmani the wife of Krishna, Radha was ansh (part) of vishnu itself this is the reason why they didn't marry because one can't marry himself
And being wife of vishnu

Lakshmi is not a celestial being, but personification of material energy. This material energy accompanies the spiritual energy(Vishnu) in 8 physical forms earth (solid), air (gaseous), fire (plasma), rain (liquid), sky (ether), mind, intellect and ego.
In hindu theological philosophy, attributes of nature are personified and used as vehicle to reach to the underlying spiritual energy.

The spiritual energy aka supreme being or supreme consciousness pervades everything. So worship of any physical object acts as vehicle to that supreme reality.

In south, diwali is celebrated due to killing of narakasur ( demon) by rukmini/ Lakshmi ' s incarnation along with Vishnu. Interestingly, only in his deathbead did he awaken to the fact that he had been born as laksmi's son in a previous birth. The demon turns good and he asks Vishnu to guide people to celebrate his death day as a symbolism of good over evil.
