Which Plastic Trim Restore Product is the BEST?

Today I am testing trim restoration products. These are great for cars with unpainted plastic bumpers, side skirts, window trim, door trims, roof rails/ roof racks and more.

Products tested:

Turtle Wax Trim Restorer

Meguiar's Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer

Mothers Back to Black Trim & Plastic Restorer

I left the test up to you guys to decide whose best because we got 3 pretty different results, and it seems like personal preference based on how much gloss you want.

I used the Turtle wax stuff shown and it went on easy and has lasted for a month now. It looks nice and beads water and has not faded yet through several washes and rains. I'm not really concerned if it last for months and months, I enjoy cleaning my car.

Before I watched this I went to Walmart and PU a bottle of Meguires. I applied it on the black of my motorcycle. I am pleased. I am going to give it a second coat and see if it is even darker. They say we may have to apply 2-3 applications. Glad you liked the Turtle Wax. I am going to try that next.
Follow up: The Meguires definitely gets better with repeated applications. My motorcycle seats are now shiny black! I obviously don’t apply it where or sit.

I use back to black on my foggy headlights, says it works on all plastic surfaces, makes them nice and shiny! 15 year old truck and the headlights look almost brand new now!

I've used the Meguiars on 6 year old car that had a lot of fading black trim...it worked very well....6 months later it's still looking good but definitely not as good as it did when it was first applied....I think if you do this on your cars twice a year, you'll be good to go.

I used the Meguairs on my old Honda CRV (lots of trim). It worked really well. As this video showed, it's not super glossy, but I think it would look strange if it was shiny. I'm pretty happy with it.

From what I found is that the mothers works better than the Maguires. I did my own little test a couple weeks ago.

(paused video) Wait...the Turtle brand has age reversing technology. I'm drinking that stuff!

Thanks! Wasn’t sure if I’ll try another “black restorer” after having awful results with the Meguiers one. Think I’ll try the turtle wax you used !

I have used Meguires for years after using different brands, they all mostly look good for a few weeks but Meguires is the only one that seems to last, I use it on new cars too and it keeps tge trim looking new.

Solution Finish is the best for discoloured, aged plastics.
Gtechniq C4 is also great for sealing in the Solution Finish or for less knackered plastics.

Ya have to try Cerakote ceramic coating for trim. Works awesome and lasts 6mos. Love the stuff...I use it on my wife's 2011 subaru outback..it had lower plastics about 14 inches wide on the whole car. Make sit look new.

Meguiars and Mothers, both run after it rains. You get work great if it does not rain

Nice comparison, just how long did the shine and black last?, Does the plastic revert back to faded again?

Glad we got to see it with the tape off for a second at the end. Would have been interesting to maybe spray each with some water and wipe it down to see if it just went back to faded. I'll probably try the Mother's for my GSX side skirts, unless the Turtle Wax is way cheaper.

A couple questions.
How long does the finish last before reapplication?
What about trim that is grey?

I used the Mothers one with a microfiber cloth, not great results but it was much better if applied using a small brush. I'm guessing that worked the product into the grain of the plastic.

Which one works better for the exterior door handles?

These protects on the long run right? Buying a new vehicle soon and wanting to reserve the colours of the plastic trimmings.

a true test would be to put it back out in the sun and let it dry there. I watched a video just prior to this where Turtle Wax is compared to another product (Finish Solution) and the Turtle wax failed miserably (although it was 1/5 the price). This test you probably copuld have just put Armorall and gotten a glossy shine that looked black. Thanks for your efforts but I donthink it accurately depicts the products capabilities. Just saying!

All, the majority trim/plastic restorers do not work! this does not remove the hardened white oxidized calcium at the surface. A bandaid that fills in the oxidized pours. Sanding/buffing & long term uv sealers or clear vinyl covers. No disrespect if have a different opinion.
