Im an Aussie, and i remember when everyone was saying that Hugh was gay, not that there is anything wrong with that, but 30 years ago it did matter, not in a moral way, but for workwise as an actor, it would be hard for the public to have a gay man play the part of a leading man who is married or a womaniser or the badboy turns good or lots any popular RomCom.
Even today, where things are so different, i believe it would be a bad carreer move to come out as gay if a man wants good meaty roles as a movie star.
