My mom doesn't want one either. The reason they don't want a dog because they become so attached to them, they become afraid of losing them.
"Which parent would want to bury their own child?" my mom said. 😕

True my Mom has almost 6 cats now . 2 females 1 male and 3 babies. The other one is pregnant so after 1 week it will be 8 or 10 I think. She feeds all the cats, and talks to them all day. Since my sister's marriage, she has been alone in the house during the day so those are her babies now. At night she will all tell their stories and gossip about relatives. I will listen thinking about how her life changed. thank you amma for everything. I love you.

Reminded me of my dad and his cats. Always getting worried if they are out of his sight even for a minute.
My cats love my dad so much that even if they are miles away they will come running if my dad calls them once.

Literally my mom lol. My Malayali mom was like "nope. No pets" until we saw a tiny abandoned puppy on the roadside. She felt so bad, i did too. But i didn't tell her anything. She was waiting for me to tell her let's take it home. I didn't. She gave up her stubbornness for the first time in her life and told me "take it!!!" I happily did. And then 1 month later, we found another one, abandoned in a fish market. Took that home too. Now we have 2 puppies. One boy, one girl.

Before the girl puppy came, i was the only girl child. Now I'm literally a stranger. She's my mom's favourite child. I was already a middle child and the only girl child. Now I no longer exist in my mom's book

I don't know why moms avoid dogs but when they finally get one, mom and dog's bond is the best

When it's time to part, it really becomes difficult, but when you realise that you gave them your best and made their life enjoyable and cared for them( specially street rescued dogs) you feel content that they were not suffering on the roadside alone and it makes the pain and sadness less significant and you wish to save more lives
