Trotec Laser: Extreme Relief Engraving

Trotec’s JobControl® laser software can create beautifully detailed relief engravings from a simple grayscale image. The different shades in the graphic correspond to varying power levels, so more power is applied in the darker and blacker areas whereas significantly less power is applied in the lighter or white areas. This creates unique, eye-catching applications, especially on materials like wood. Detailed relief engravings can also create higher perceived value and are great for applications such as gifts, trophies, jewelry, or keepsakes.

This was run on an 8”x10” solid maple wood plaque with the Speedy 400, 120 watt laser at 100% power, 40% speed, at 1000 DPI and the 2.0” lens with “Relief Mode” and 3 passes of the laser. Total time to process was 78 minutes. Then sand blasted off the residue and oiled it for the finished result.
