In this short lecture Dr. Francesco Mangano summarizes the results of a recently published research article, where 3d printed and milled zirconia blocks were subjected to uniaxial compression. 3d printing of zirconia restorations is now clinical reality and it is possible to 3d print short-span monolithic restorations (crowns) with high accuracy! This video provides some preliminary info on the mechanical behaviour of 3d printed zirconia blocks. Although still not resistant like the milled ones, the 3d printed samples show an interesting behaviour. In addition, the forces applied in this experiments were quite high. Next experiment will be on flexural strength and Weibull analysis. Stay tuned for the next chapter, we'll talk about the accuracy of 3d printed monolithic zirconia crowns!
