Black Egypt

In recent years the idea has been mooted, by those favouring an Afrocentric view of history, that ancient Egypt was a black civilisation. Evidence from the analysis of DNA dating back three thousand years does not support this hypothesis.

Cleopatra was from the Ptolemy line, and they were Greek/Macedonian.

If black civilisations invented all this stuff...then they obviously forgot it all. Woops.

Even weirder is some claiming Carthaginians were black.

I used to be perplexed and annoyed when black Americans tell me that they came from Egypt.

It's both a Whiting and Blacking of history to cater to a narrative. Being a Sudanese, I can see the nuances...Some things missed...90% Egyptians self identify as ethnically Egyptian, the remaining 10% or so come from Greek and other neighbouring communities to have settled and mixed 100s of years ago, but never fully assimilated. As a regional centre of Arab culture, though not ethnically Arab, they now self identity as Arab. Also as a result of Roman and Greek and Assyrian and British occupations, Egyptian aligned themselves with Whiteness and Europe. Though darker than the English, Egyptian prejudices distance themselves from their darker kin in the south. There are other legitimate interpretations of Egyptian history but because they are black African, it gets ignored.

Ancient Egypt was perpetually at war with 'Nubia'. Nubia was basically the black African people on the land south of Egypt (north, relative to Egyptian cosmology). Egypt enslaved hundreds of thousands of Nubians.

If ancient Egyptians did have the much darker skin than we're lead to believe, does that mean all the art and other images drawn and painted of ancient Egyptians are wrong then?? I don't think they

You have good reason to be a concern that people are being miseducated. In fact, the more this stuff is used on line, the more it moves up in google ranking.

My mom, back in the 1940, was considered “black” in her village. Just because she had black hair, she was white European. But using the reasoning of Afrocentrists, I am a black man.

I fear you'll reap the whirlwind with this one. "No man is hated more than he who speaks the truth." (Plato, I think.) Someone I know pretty well said, "The only thing more important than the truth is the pursuit of it." An interesting book that addresses much of this is, Not Out Of Africa by Mary Lefkowitz.

Indo-Europeans invented the wheel and horsemanship, by the way, c. 4-3000 BCE. These inventions spread from north of the Black Sea to the Middle East.
