A US Navy sailor accused of setting massive USS Bonhomme Richard fire has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him and waived his right to a jury trial.

Seaman Recruit Ryan Sawyer Mays, 21, faces charges of arson and willful hazarding of a vessel for allegedly setting the blaze that began July 12, 2020.

The July 2020 blaze burned for nearly five days and sent an acrid smoke over San Diego, damaging the amphibious assault ship so badly that it had to be scuttled.

But the prosecution has presented no physical evidence proving Mays set the vessel on fire.

Key witnesses also have changed their stories or their testimonies have contradicted each other including on Monday.

According to prosecutors, Mays was a young, arrogant sailor angry about being assigned to deck duty after failing to become a Navy SEAL.

The trial is expected to last two weeks and Mays faces up to life in prison if convicted.

He is the fall guy for some incompetent captain. They are trying to cover up their own incompetence.

I need this guy's stories about how he disables the ship's fire extinguishing system or the Navy fire system that could not handle such a fire.

If it really only takes one naval sailor to destroy an entire aircraft carrier then military budgets could be cut drastically :D :D
