Let's spill it out: when you say fancy Asians you think of the Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Singaporeans. Jungle Asians, you think of the Filipinos, Vietnamese, Cambodians, etc. Fancy Asians have fancy glittering cities and high-tech gadgetries. Jungle Asians, there's squalidness and poverty. Brutal in honesty but that's what it is. There's discrimination. You go to Tokyo and you introduce yourself as a computer programmer from Manila, even though you have a college degree to back you up and several years experience in your trade, Japanese people still look down on you because you are Filipino and they identify you belonging to a part of Asia that's still uncivilized. And yes people, Asians do discriminate.

It's just a joke but it's actually a very interesting concept. What is Asia? The word Asia was actually coined by non-asians. I think Asians just call it "the land". Like, I don't think Asians, traditionally anyways, see a real difference between Asia and the rest of the world.

My daughter is half white, half japanese. When I taught in Japan my students would ask if she was half. I wished so badly they sold frosted mini wheats in Japan--white on one side brown on the other. I just told them she's white from the waist down and Japanese up top.

Koreans and Japanese don't use the word 'Fancy Asian' becuz they feel proud to introduce themselves as Korean or Japanese.😀 But Chinese people cannot proudly introduce themselves as Chinese. Fancy Asian is a word that the Chinese always hope to be treated at the same level as Koreans and Japanese.🙂
