My grampa was the closest thing I ever knew to a cowboy. He was a great lover of cowboy songs and liked this one the first time I sang it for him. When he died, 20 years ago, this was the song I chose to use in his eulogy. My mom didnt like it being sung, but there was not a dry eye in the room at the end. Another cowboy crossed over Jordan, and this was the most perfect song to send him off

This is the best song Garth ever recorded, hands down. I've sung it to all my children. The best and worst time I sang it was while I held my little Caroline, who didn't survive coming into this world. This song is very powerful, and means so much to my family.

I remeber spending time with my dad "cleaning" the garage when I was like 6ish, he had two speakers in the back of the garage and he played this on a iPod touch as well as a few other songs. I never really appreciated that time spent with dad until things changed and mom and dad split, sad I will never build a car with my dad in that garage, that garage will never be cleen, and mom will never forgive him. Mom loves me but never spends good time with me, and is always hurting me with some of the things she says and dose. Dad has been teaching me to drive, when we go driving we listen to music, and we got talking and I remembered this song. listening to it made me cry.

When I was a kid growing up in Nashville in the 90s, it was just a given that you loved country music. My dad wrote and recorded several of his own songs and played many covers.

One of those covers was this song, and the way dad would sing it with just a guitar made the story so much more melancholy and haunting than it already is.

He'll have been gone six years in a couple weeks. This song brings back so many great memories.

I've loved Garth since he burst onto the country music scene so long ago. His songs makes want to sing out loud or dance. This is the only one that makes me want to just sit and listen. Garth is the best and this song is his best. It's the best from the best.
