Although not many people with have this fancy roaster, this vid is chock full of useful tips about the roasting process:
1. Remove stones from beans or they'll destroy your grinder.
2. Ambient temperature affects how long it takes to roast
3. Roaster is set to 160 degrees (Celsius)
4. There's a difference between roasting and baking. Baking might not get hot enough to produce the reaction (1st crack, 2nd crack)
5. Start of second crack= medium roast, 30 seconds after=French roast, 35 seconds after=espresso roast, 36 seconds = garbage!!
6. Caffeine reduces with heat, so lighter roasts have more caffeine than darker roasts.
7. You must cool the coffee or it will overroast.
8. Chaff is flammable and can start a fire; roasting is smoky mess, so do it outside!

I think I’m the only one who thought this was a HowToBasic video on first glance. With the google picture of the coffee beans and the ‘how to’ title. I was pretty disappointed when I found out otherwise

From Indian Professional in Singapore Dear Americans all that equipment is not needed not necessary why can you keep it simple. Don't boil room temperature here room temperature is 30 to 35 centigrade! Always add ginger n Tumeric powder also very dark Coco powder is very healthy. You Americans are making wonderful healthy Coffee less healthy but you won't listen. Coffee is life extending.

Thanks, Jack, for adding coffee roasting to your great series. I appreciate the talk about coffee chemistry, but OMG, a multi-hundred dollar roaster is very unnecessary, especially for beginners. There are many low-cost roasting methods readily available. I use a thrift store bread machine and a heat gun. Total cost, under $20. It produces fantastic results.

nice 800$

i was hoping to see you do atleast the roasting by using a popcorn air popper, or one of the stove top roasters. I don't see anyone with these pricey machines at their home.

The cracking matter what is the head of your machine. I f you use traditional roasted method you can't count seconds but the amount of the heat . Slow roasted or not., depends on your preference what type of coffee you want. May on your machine you can count but with different machine the time may be not same so always use your experience and your knowledge how you roast coffee beans.

Can you actually cool the coffee beans in a colander of ice water? If so how do you eliminate the added moisture the beans will absorb??
