I first discovered Toro y Moi in 2010 ~ back then I used to sleep with MTV on and there was this amazing segment they used to do late at night with music videos ~ I remember waking up out of my sleep and a Toro video was on ~ I think it might have been Talamak ~ I felt like I was in a waking dream ~ the sounds, the visuals, everything ~ very surreal ~ I fell in love 🦋

I had the honor of seeing Toro live twice in Atlanta ~ back when The Masquerade was a thing ~ I remember standing near the stage before the show got started ~ he was playing downstairs (hell) they were setting up and Chaz came out to help ~ I screamed out of shock from seeing him in person ~ he smiled and it embarrassed me ~ but I felt that same surreal feeling 🦋

and with each album release I’ve been grateful ~ Chaz is one of my favorite musicians of all time ~ if you’re reading this just know that you have been a major influence in my life for the past 9 years ~ I’ve made friends with people just from mutually loving and being inspired by YOUR work 🦋

you’ve helped me find my voice and my style, as an individual and as an artist ~ you’ve shown me that being quiet and taking creative risks helps with building the goals I have for myself artistically, as a writer, poet, film maker and visionary 🦋

Without your work, I wouldn’t be here today, pursuing my dreams with confidence ~ I truly hope 2019 brings you more abundance ~ good health ~ more strength and inspiration to make more moving music, eye~pleasing visuals and such 🦋

you’ve got such a great talent and skill ~ and I’d like to just say thank you for paving the way for a quiet yet wildly eccentric Atlanta-native like me 🦋

I’ll be here every step of the way, in spirit, cheering you on and sending you love and light ~ I’m eager to see what you bring us in 2019 & beyond.

Saw him on his first tour of UK, the guitarist broke a string on the electric guitar, they reorganised all the remaining songs in a different ket, as they did not have a replacement string. Spoke with him afterwards - really love fella and a little genius IMO
