Happy Lonely Birthday, Curiosity

The Curiosity rover turns 4 years old Friday on Mars. With no one else around, it has to sing Happy Birthday to itself.

Curiosity has been on Mars for a long time. A very long time.
He's been alone for a long time. A very long time.
He isn't fazed by the loneliness, though. After all, he doesn't know what its like to be around others like him.
But today, today is a special day. Probably the most exciting day of the year, if you ask him. Almost as exciting as the time he found evidence of water.
He knows the noise is coming. He doesn't know exactly what it means, but it plays on the same day every year, so it must be important. It makes him feel special. So very special and happy.
Suddenly, it happens! The noise begins! He can almost imagine words going along with it. He's overjoyed.
Then, as suddenly as it began, it stops. He's a little disappointed it's over, but he can't stop to be sad. There's work to be done, after all.
Curiosity sets off across the Martian desert. So vast. So featureless.
So empty.

As the tune begins to play, Curiosity remembers the life he left behind on " Earth", his robot wife and children. Even after 5 years on that god forsaken planet, he can remember the day he left as clearly as any memory he has, how his children didn't understand where he was going, and how his wife didn't understand why it had to be him. The morning he left his abode there was a solemn mood, it was unspoken but understood, he would not be coming back, but he would be sacrificing his life to save humanity. As the tune comes to an end, he remembers where he is, and his mission he had set out to do, no matter the cost
