It's one thing to downplay fan backlash for one of the worst romance decisions in television history... it's ANOTHER thing to have the actress come out and defend the decision herself. This show is LAUGHABLY bad.

This SHADOW of Galadriel carries no eleven grace, no ethereal majesty, no sophisticated beauty which only an ancient soul could espouse, but this ACTOR has depicted a grimacing frustrated and angry adolescent who just graduated from one of America’s illustrious universities with a clear chip on her shoulder regarding this simplified “patriarchal” world beast Sauron, converting middle earth into an allegory which Tolkien vehemently denied was the case. Middle Earth was something other or outside our times, a place we all hoped to escape to but Amazon has tragically and viciously demolished!!

Adar is a more likable and relatable character. He is looking for a home for his orc babies, orcs of all kinds. Instead we have Guyladriel profess her intentions to commit genocide. Good guys don't go around telling people they want to wipe out a whole race.

What's most bizarre to me, is the way they have galadriel consumed by thoughts of revenge. To have a character, who is q member of a race that is supposed to be the wisest and good of all in middle earth, not being able to get over her brothers death, after a thousand years, is ridiculous!
Humans forgive others all the time, even those who have harmed them most, and we're a species which is consistently petty, irrational and violent!
It just doesn't make sense!

The pyroclastic flow is a perfect metaphor for this garbage.
How does anyone read Tolkien and think that Galadriel living in Lothlorien is an allegory for a war criminal living in Argentina, then decide to write the backstory? It's beyond absurd.
It's a shame the pyroclastic flow didn't take out Amazon studios.

my prediction: galdrial and halbrand/sauron marry and rule middle earth together. amazon is going to destroy the story of the second age to make "the lord of the rings" irrelevant. they have already corrupted every original lore character so why stop there.

It’s a shame Christopher lee isn’t still with us, as a staunch Tolkien purist and perfectly cast Saruman, I think he would have torn the rings of power and Amazon a new one 👍

I’m pretty sure he would have despised this show and spoken out about it, in a thunderous baritone 🤟

But I’m also glad he didn’t live to see this mangling of Tolkien’s legacy, to see something so timeless and revered, tarnished by this awful, pantomime cringe .

I dig your takes. I am 50 and started reading Tolkien when I was about 7. This is just horrible writing. Galadriel is well over 2000 years old and turning her into a petulant brat is awful.

I've decided the big twist ending of this show is going to be when Galadriel turns out to be Sauron! Halbrand will come out and marry Celeborn and adopt orc babies from the war torn south...what a beautiful story.

Of course she'll defend it, that's what they pay her for ... I tend to blame the for how a character is portrayed ... she's only doing what she was directed to do. however she should be pissed off at how far they missed the mark .... this performance will not reflect on her kindly in the future.

Someone needs to explain to Morfydd Clark that if she needs to come out and tell people what her character was doing in a shot focused entirely on her...she's a failure as an actress. Someone also needs to explain to McKay and Payne that if their leading lady needs to explain her character's motivation, relationships, and emotions after the fact...they are utter failures as writers and directors.

Morfydd Clark reportedly only gets $20, 000 per episode, which is also less than many of the other actors. It's not even that financially rewarding for someone in a $1 billion show. Hard to see how she'll over get over meme'd and mocked for this over maybe the next fifty years or so

Guyladriel must have forgotten that her dear brother gets reborn and is just waiting in the Halls of Mandos for a suitable body and her whole quest of revenge is therefore invalid. Also the showrunners are so bad at portraying actual deep relationships let alone romances. It's such a cringe fest. All these plot holes and time jumps. How does time and space work anyway? Everyone seems to be teleporting when convenient.
