I remember our teacher reading this book to us when I was in PreK back in 2011. I rediscovered this book around 2017-18. The part that spooks me most is the hall part with those unicorn statues.

I remember renting the Weston Woods/Children's Circle version of this all the time at the library when I was little. The music in this is scarier than many horror movies I know.

Today we don't get good stories like this anymore. When I was a kid in school, heard this recording and nearly scared me..until is aw the page of the mouse and I laughed. But a good story none the less, and the art is just good

In the wood, there was a Dark, Dark house.
At the front of the house, there was a Dark, Dark door.
Behind the door, there was a Dark, Dark hall.
In the hall, there were some Dark, Dark stairs.
Up the stairs, there was a Dark, Dark passage.
Across the passage, there was a Dark, Dark curtain.
Behind the curtain, was a Dark, Dark room.
In the room was a Dark, Dark cupboard.
In the cupboard was a Dark, Dark corner.
In the corner was Dark, Dark box
And in the box, there was, A MOUSE!

This scared 😱 me when I was a Iittle was 5year old kid.

That beeping is an all consent tape from tape recorder. This was in 1994 - 1999 this scared me.
