Ever wonder how singers like Chester Bennington, Jared Leto and Sammy Hagar (to name a few) get that wonderful, full, gritty sound 'on command' through almost their whole range? How do they turn that intensity on and off so effortlessly? In this video, I cover exactly how to get these sounds. Once you learn how certain things are supposed to feel, the only thing that stands in your way is consistent and mindful practice! I'll show you how easy it really is...

To those who don't know. Chris's vocal course ("Discover your voice" and "Mixed voice and Madness practice pack") is ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!! Join his vocal course. You won't regret it guys. I've already finished his first course ( "Discover your voice") and I want to say I've learned a lot from that, especially vocal fry and vowel placement. Also I learned mixed voice. This channel is GOLD on YouTube.

Man Chris is basically the Bob Ross of singing, awesome personality, heaps of talent and full of positivity. Breaking down and teaching us, even if we can barely sing at all. Wonderful work man!

Man! You seem to be the only vocal coach who actually makes videos on vocal lessons while others are into some vocal reacts trend. I lately discovered this channel and I gladly exploit the knowledge that you provide for free and which others charge a ton. And even though I mostly sing pop but rock is a greater teacher. I hope you will continue to provide knowledge even when your channel reaches tremendous success which it will for sure.

I'm not kidding. This video saved my life. When Chris mentioned where to place the grit, I thought "hmm, it's true, i've never payed attention to that". In the end, the reason why I couldn't sing a whole song without simply ROASTING my throat was the placement. I was placing the grit below my larynx. I fixed that and all of a suddenly I started singing 12 songs in a row without pain. It's unbelievable.

You not being ashamed to make sounds is truly a gift to us. Your pedagogy is the best.

Chris I have to say this video has nothing short of changed my life. I’ve been struggling to sing with compression and breath support consistently for years. I could never tell if what I was doing was compression or twang or something else.

My head voice was too breathy or loud, mix too loud and lacking resonance, falsetto hit and miss, distortion was a pipe dream. Never could pin point what the problem was.

Soon as I watched this and went through the exercises something clicked and instantly things have fallen into place. I have so much more control now. I can sing soft. I can sing loud. I can even sing with rasp!! (Ask my wife she’ll tell you how much I have wanted that last one).

Sorry for the long post mate but honestly I’m so grateful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

This is great as it's like you stretch with CT muscle first (sounds airy, high and weak), then activate the TA muscle which is when you hear the grit and meaty sound. Adding volume or activating support even more to stay engaged with TA muscle. The trick is to develop and master that activation of TA when CT stretches it. Many times people have one or the other but hard to develop coordination of both.

Chris, I can’t thank you enough for being so cool with looking silly in order to demonstrate a point. There’s often such a disconnect in my vocal lessons, in that it’s VERY difficult to communicate how things should feel. You make it crystal clear to an entire audience. It’s more helpful than you even know! 👏

Always come back to your videos as a refresher. Constantly experimenting to try out new things. Sometimes I get a sound that is good, feels fine at first but turns out isn't. Take a break and sort of forget the correct way. Your videos help bring me back.

I’m a singer and guitar player. Been singing for about 8 years but never was taught to sing. I can use rasp and stuff like this and you out of everyone aren’t afraid to make the embarrassing sounds that we gotta practice on which helps me find new ways to use my voice and to help me sing better. You got my subscription for sure. Thanks for helping out man and good job on your videos keep it up 👍
