After 2 bad books in a row I usually retreat to a well-loved author who's work I haven't finished, so that hasn't happened since required books in school (thank god Pratchett was so prolific). If you're looking for non-fiction book recs, The Thaw Generation by Lyudmila Alexeyeva is an interesting autobiography about someone involved in the Soviet dissident movement.

I can't think of the last time I've had two book fails in a row. Though now I'm reminded of the last book I truly hated, which I think was called Caged. Looked intriguing. Turned out to be an even more abusive Twilight with worse writing and characters I actively wanted to see reach their end at the hand of nuclear weapons. Or nuclear bats.

A couple years ago, junior year in high school, I was an avid book-reader. I was budding into my habit of reading web-serials, as well, but it hadn't really blossomed yet. That rapidly changed when, after beginning the second assigned reading in my english class, I could no longer find any books that grasped me. Any. Of course the assigned reading being a slog was a given, it was asigned reading, which in my experience can turn basically anything terrible, but if I recall correctly, I went through something like 12 books in the course of a single week, sitting in the library through lunch and into my study hall-esque period every week day, trying to find something interesting. I failed (or, depending on your perspective I suppose, my school library failed). It was a scary time, and for a while, I read nothing of a narrative sort at all.
