Thanks for the tips on automation editing. There is one thing the video didn't mention which always trips me up, though: in order to record automation without overwriting your MIDI data, make sure the "MIDI Arrangement Overdub" button is enabled. It's the [+] button next to the "Automation Arm" button. Cheers!

On my win keyboard its the "Alt" key to disable the snap to grid mode for automation, not the control key
But thanks anyway for the video! Very informative and well done!

There is something i didnt find a solution yet. I am working with a midi keyboard and i want to record an automation of a vst (lets say cutoff). but the automation line in the arrangement view doesnt respond when i move knobs, it only moves inside the midi ctrl under envelops and not in the channel dropdown menu in the arrangement. how do i move the automation of a vst via midi keyboard in the arrangement?

Please, can you add the setting which allows to remove snapping automation point to the grid by default? I.e. make linking optional (as it was in live 9). I almost do not use the snap function (which is now done by default). I don't want to constantly press an extra button on my keyboard to do basic things.

Hey, thanks!! This helps a lot! I have one question, is there a way to move the entire automation?? Like if I have the volume of a track automated but it turns out, the entire track is too loud. If I change the volume of the track, the automation is "cancelled" (automation turns into the grey, straight line). Can I somhow grab the entire autmation and pull it up or down, so that the relations stay the same, only everything is louder or quieter? Thanks a lot and cheers from Germany :)

Why can't MIDI CCs show up there on the arrangement view? Why are they only on the clips?

I think it's ALT on Windows keyboard for disabling snapping to grid.

Am totally confused. In this video, record is armed on the track, as well as pressing the rec button in the transport bar at the top. I have some audio, and I want to automate the volume, up and down (like an LFO, but doing it manually). However, when I do this, it overwrites the audio (?!) When I disarm rec on the track, it does what I want. Why is rec enabled in this video? What have I missed?

can i also program modulation on a whole track (over several clips) in arrangement view like shown in this video or is that only working locally on clips?

Okay, but how can I make automation with a MIDI file? I can see it at 1:15, but I can't find "teeth" wich includes the Time, Overtone buttons.
I have Live Standard. Can someone help me, how does it works in MIDI? Thanks.

Need help exporting a track with automation on it... its there but when i try to export it blocks it off and doesn't render to MP3 or WAV. The automation is from a plug in, which works perfetly until i try to export the track... thanks.
