Not just a marketing idea. Dolby Vision is Dolby's version of HDR (High Dynamic Range), which allows for an expansion of the colour palette, contrast range, and limits of brightness and darkness in the source material, not the display itself. Displays have raved about contrast ratio, colour reproduction and brightness levels, but have always been limited by the source material. Not anymore.

I am so very Happy Dolby Technology have maintained their technological edge into the digital age as the Dolby Sound suppression came to a close at the end of most analog media. Double "D" still strong into the Digital Age. Thank you Dolby Stereo and now Vision.

Amazing. A video about Dolby Vision... without Dolby Vision

This video is the biggest statement of saying a ton of words without saying anything at all.  Recipe:  dramatic music is key, statements, key words, people that look like something and consumer testimony.
  Statements of current TV vs Dolby Vision with no numeric value.
1 minute in: "Dolby vision is a new generation imaging technology and we focused on increasing contrast, brightness and color where as other folks just focused on increasing resolution..."  Really?  Manufactures missed that part?  Never tried it?  Well...  let's face it increasing resolution on displays it much easier...  right?  Never once has a manufacture tried increasing a displays "contrast"  "brightness" and/or "color" in the past...  How was this over looked for so long????  
Doldy= Oh.  I forgot and need to release a numeric value...  How bout a "Consumer testing" of a large number of... 1046.  Whatever that means....  but ITS A BIG  BIG NUMBERS ARE BETTER!!!  
Mind you we are only 1:13 into this video...
Going on -- bright sunny day -- feels like LIFE --we are CONNECTED(while larger more dramatic music plays)  "...your eyes are amazing..."  (compliment the the person your selling to) --   Current TVs equals -put a gray layer over what you can see-.  1:36 "Today's TVs are receiving images based on the old basic cathode ray tube and in fact are limited in the images they are getting.  Our technology unleashes the new image capability of the new displays that are unlike anything anybody has ever seen before."  So you aren't changing how TVs receive the image nor are you making current displays (which you stated earlier is part of the problem where manufactures are only looking a resolution and not contrast, brightness and color?(THAT SAME GUY!!)).  OK...OK... I am digging what your saying so far DOLBY.  What else can I expect?

2:45 Message:  All directors say everything will be Dolby Vision(No names mentioned just that all of em' want it). Closing with a couple more key words and the fantastic part the we live in the light age.  THAT IS MY REVIEW OF THIS VIDEO.  Great marketing.

If I'm not mistaken, Dolby Vision operates in the Rec 2020 colour space. And there are no Rec 2020 displays commercially available.
