Governments used to earn when they conquered places. Since we have stopped doing that governments are now a different entity. I'm reading a few books now on medieval Europe and those guys used to earn gold by going out and getting it. Then they became tax collectors and it changed.

The government should be a producer. It can afford to make smart investments and deals with foreign countries. But it wastes too much money on dumb stuff.

If a profit was produced I like the idea of 80% going tp the debt and 20% getting split up and given to the tax payers.
