During the mid 90's I did overnight security at a "living museum" which was built over an old lead mine... we had some insane lightning there. One day near the end of the shift in the morning I was approaching an exhibit building from the back door for final check when the tree near the back of the building (about twice as thick as the one in the vid) was hit with a massive bolt of lightning blowing the tree apart vertically and throwing wood shrapnel the size of my forearm. I was about 20ft away and was knocked off my feet and didn't thankfully get hit by any of the debris. The lightning superheats the sap in the tree in a microsecond and turns it to steam, exploding the tree like a pipe bomb. It was pretty impressive.

Fun fact: due to car’s frames and bodies being built mostly of conductive aluminium or some kind of metal, once lightning hits it the electricity travels through the body of the car, not touching the interior of the car. This is because the interior is usually constructed with insulating material, like leather, wool or plastic. So if you are in a car when lightning hits it, you will be completely fine. Hope I taught you something!
