When I hear Katherine’s version, I am emotionally heartbroken and feel the bittersweetness of a death of a beautiful soul who left before her time. When I hear Megan’s version, I feel vindicated and proud of a broken woman who has stood the test the test of time to become a legend. Honestly, I love both versions because they both pay homage to an amazing person whose complexities are near impossible to perfectly capture.

What I loved about this show was how they showed both girls could be Marilyn. Both were talented and both had their own interpretations of Marilyn. That's what theatre is about; not copying someone else's greatness, but creating an incredible craft of your own that makes you your own unique star. Elphaba has been played by dozens and dozens of actresses and is known as being one of the pinnacle theatre roles. Yet Idina, Stephanie, Jackie, and Shoshana, to name a few, all made it their own and all are memorable. It's the message that there's room in the world for you; you just need to find the right space.

I remember the first time I watched this episode. Seeing how scared Ivy was that she still wouldn't be good enough, that all of her hard work would still be for nothing, and that she'd always just be a chorus girl, and then accepting that this was her role right before the curtains opened. And then seeing her sing this song with such conviction had me weeping. No wonder this episode is considered one of Smash's best.

Megan is the whole package. Looks, voice, and acting. Hands down the epitome of Marilyn

I always liked Ivy more as Marilyn and as a character. For one she was for more interesting than Karen, but she also fit Marilyn’s story and persona far better. Not to mention, at least in my opinion, she sings this song so much better because she truly portrays the hurt that Marilyn had gone through, every word she sings is so powerful and has so much real feeling behind it, and the emotion in her voice stems from what Ivy herself has gone through, and it all ties together and makes her the perfect Marilyn for the musical. Karen had a beautiful voice, but she didn’t have the persona or the emotional depth that made Marilyn who she was. She sang the song like it was just a song to sing, Ivy sang it like it was a real story.

The show really gas lit us to believe that Karen was a better Marylin than Ivy and i won't ever let them forget it.

I like Ivy so much better in season 2 than in season 1. In season 2 she grows and realizes she can hold her own as an artist. I wish we saw more of that.

All these years later, and I still get goosebumps. Love this so much. Such a tragedy that this show only got 2 seasons.

They thought they could dispose of me
They tried to make me small
I suffered each indignity
But now rise above it all

Yes, the price I paid was all I had
But at last, I found release
And if something good can come from bad
The past can rest in peace

Oh if you see someone's hurt
And in need of a hand
Don't forget me
Or hear a melody crying from some baby grand
You don't forget me

When you sing happy birthday to someone you love
Or see diamonds you wish were all free
Please say that you won't;
I pray that you don't forget me

But forget every man who I ever met
'Cause they only lived to control
For a kiss they paid a thousand
Yet they paid fifty cents for my soul
They took their piece
The price of fame that no one can repay
Ah, but they didn't buy me when they bought my name
And that is why I pray

That when you see someone's hurt
And in need of a hand
You don't forget me
Or hear a melody crying from some baby grand
You don't forget me

When you sing happy birthday to someone you love
Or see diamonds you wish were all free
Please say that you won't;
I pray that you don't forget me

There are some in this world who have strength on their own
Never broken or in need of repair
But there are some born to shine who can't do it alone
So protect them and take special care
Take care

And don't forget me
Please take care
And don't forget me
When you look to the heavens with someone you love
And a light shining bright from afar
Hope you see my face there
And then offer a prayer
And please let me be
Let me be that star

This always makes me cry. Strikes a cord in me deep down in a way Katherine’s version just doesn’t. Both beautiful vocalists, but Ms. Hilty has undeniable star power and knows exactly what to do to make the 11 o’clock number one you’ll never forget. Not to mention she’s already got the Broadway chops with great diction and breath support. Love it!!

Ivy had the perfect “Bombshell” look and her voice is stronger and more emotional than Karen’s...

From the beginning of the show, I thought Ivy was more suited to Marilyn - her story was more adequate than Caren, more emotional, more swindle, more tragism. And her voice <3
Team Ivy :D
