It is Oct 2019 and I still decided on the Nikon D7500. It is my first real camera and I really feel like once I am no longer overwhelmed with learning all of its features, that it will be a great starter camera for me. I wanted something powerful to learn on and something that I could keep and appreciate for a few years while I learn and get better. @JaredPolin I have already spent an hour watching your introduction video for my camera. And while I DO feel a bit overwhelmed, I am also excited to see what I can learn and produce. Thank you.

Both cameras are great.
The only REAL issue is YOU...your own photography skills.

I don't own a Nikon, but I do know they are great cameras. I own the 80d and I love it. I chose the Canon over the Nikon because of the video and auto focus. It takes great images too. I guess it's all about which camera best suites your needs.

It seems like whenever the Nikon and Canon are close in a category you call it a "toss-up" when Canon has the edge but when Nikon has the edge you decide to give it the check mark

Nikon have had Canon beat on low light for a while now. That said, I just bought a 77D and kept my old glass, and I'm happy. Not everything matters equally.

Coming from a Rebel T6, I am considering switching to Nikon for my next camera. The high ISO range is tempting. I mainly want to take more low light photos, which I've heard is Nikon's edge. 4K video is also tempting. But, not being able to fully swivel the screen seems like a turn-off.

I personally really like Nikons but I just got a Canon 80D. Tried out the Sony a6300 for a bit but it didn't impress me as much as I thought it would although I like the 4K.

Many people compared the Nikon D7200 against the Canon 80D over a year ago and I would submit the D7200 is a better camera overall than both of them.

How did Canon lose the megapixel matchup (when it has 24.2 vs 20.9)? How did it lose the focusing points matchup when it has 45 cross-type vs 15 for the Nikon? Makes no sense.

It's almost as if Jared is a Nikon fan! With that being said, i'm going with Canon. That wind tunnel test is hard to argue with.

I could see how either camera could be more attractive to different people. However for me the 80d would be the more useful. The superior autofocus, flip out screen and number of cross type focusing points are more useful to me than the increased dynamic range of the 7500.
