Frogs are a type of animal that absorbs water through their skin and whose populations are an indicator that the aquatic habitat is declining. Despite the incredible diversity of these amphibians without tails, many species are facing an increasingly hostile world. There are several frog species featured here that have been classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Learning about these creatures will hopefully motivate people to protect their precious habitats.

The biggest threat to their survival is habitat loss. At least 200 species have been wiped out or have declined dramatically due to chytrid (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis).

3. Anodonthyla Vallani
4. Titicaca Waterfrog
5. Variable Harlequin Frog
6. Bale Mountains Treefrog

To prevent more frog species from going extinct, numerous excellent conservation efforts are underway worldwide. Donate to the Amphibian Rescue & Conservation Project in Panama or the Amphibian Ark, an organization supported by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
