Τα χρόνια των σπουδών μου στο Λονδίνο τα νοσταλγώ. Η αγάπη μου για τις μουσικές του κόσμου και η επιθυμία μου να παίζω με την ποντιακή λύρα τις μουσικές αυτές, μεγάλωσε ακόμη περισσότερο από τη στιγμή που γνώρισα στο πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου (Goldsmiths University of London) τον καθηγητή μου Professor John Baily. Κοντά του διδάχτηκα το Αφγανικό ρεμπάμπ, το εθνικό μουσικό όργανο του Αφγανιστάν. Σε αυτό το βίντεο προσπάθησα να σας δώσω μια πολύ μικρή γεύση από ένα συγκεκριμένο ρεπερτόριο της αφγανικής μουσικής. Η μελωδία χωρίζεται σε διαφορετικά ρυθμικά μέρη τα οποία και αναφέρω κατά τη διάρκεια του παιξίματος. Η μουσική του Αφγανιστάν βασίζεται στο μουσικό τονικό σύστημα της ινδικής κλασικής μουσικής της βόρειας Ινδίας. Το ρεμπάμπ είναι ένα πανέμορφο μουσικό όργανο από το οποίο εμπνεύστηκαν οι Ινδοί και δημιούργησαν ένα δικό τους μουσικό όργανο, το Ινδικό σαρόντ, μια εξελιγμένη, κατά την προσωπική μου άποψη, μορφή του αφγανικού ρεμπάμπ.

I miss the years of my studies in London. My love for world music and my desire to play this music repertory on the Pontic lyra grew even more from the moment I met Professor John Baily at Goldsmiths University of London. With him I learned the Afghan rubab, the national musical instrument of Afghanistan. In this video I tried to give you a very small taste of a specific repertoire of Afghan music. The melody is divided into different rhythmic parts which I mention during the playing. The music of Afghanistan is based on the tonal system of northern Indian classical music. The rebab is a beautiful musical instrument from which the Indians inspired and created their own musical instrument, the Indian sarod, an evolved, in my personal opinion, form of the Afghan rebab.
I am grateful to my teacher, Professor John Baily, and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for everything I’ ve learned from him. Concluding this brief description with the same words I mentioned to you at the beginning, “I miss with a sweet pain in my soul” these beautiful and unique years of my studies in London. But for me you are a real artist and therefore I watch you and I am a big fan of you.
To mix music from middle east, the balkans, Mesopotamia, Caucasus and Greece is very noble and fine.
Especially because you keep searching for new music from "second grade" countries.

Funny. Im very muich in love with Greek music and it's immense musical legacy that spans all across the Middle east, Balkans, Mediterranean and in many ways even around the world when looking at incredible world-famous Greek musicians like Vangelis, Maria Callas, Nana Mouskouri, Demis Roussos, George Michael and so on. However, I somehow got Afghans in my life for over a decade now, and met like over hundred Afghans, so it's funny to see a Greek playing a Rubab.
However, I'm not a fan of Afghan Music as it's extremely monotone in both it's instrumentals, it's rhythm and tonalities, and I only like very few songs from people like shafiq Mureed with songs like "My beautiful Afghanistan", and few others. But the majority is so so similar. The base few instruments almost always in the same beat and rhythm. But I see Afghan youngsters now incorporating European/Mediterranean instruments now more in their music to make it more beautiful. Yes, I am critical. But you can't blame me when I am used to Greek music. Afghan music is just so much the same and just not closely as deep to the soul. And let me not even speak about the music on the weddings.
