The general rule of thumb for a home-made diet for a healthy canine patient is 75% meat/15%vegetables/10% carbohydrate. Variety is the key to a healthy diet so be sure to vary your meat, carbohydrate and vegetable sources from time to time.

The healthiest is feeding once a day.

16 ounces of food for a 50-pound dog

PROTIEN- dogs must have protein in their diets that contain 10 specific essential amino acids their bodies can’t produce. This is necessary for the creation of glucose, which transforms into energy. Sources of protein include chicken and turkey, after removing bones, fat, and skin; beef and lamb; pork in limited amounts; salmon and some other fish

Fats and fatty acids:Fatty acids support the function and structure of cells, keep skin and coat healthy, and enhance the taste of the food. Sources of fatty acids include plant-based oils, including corn, sunflower, soybean, canola, and flaxseed oil, as well as fish oil.

Carbohydrates: Dogs get some of their energy from carbohydrates, which include sugars, starches, and dietary fibers. Sources include rice, pasta, oatmeal, and quinoa.

Fiber: Dogs need fiber in their diet to keep their gastrointestinal (GI) system functioning and to help them from becoming overweight. Good sources of fiber for dogs include carrots, pumpkin, apples, dark leafy greens, brown rice, and flaxseed.

Vitamins dogs require include A (carrots, pumpkin), B vitamins (liver, green vegetables, whole grains), C (fruits and vegetables, organ meat), D (liver, fish, beef), E (leafy green vegetables, liver, bran, plant oils), K (fish, leafy green vegetables, fish), and choline (liver, fish, meats, egg yolks).

Check with your vet.

I love this! I had two Akitas and made all of their food with proper nutrients added. My Nikko was 13 and Shea was 15 before they transitioned 🙏🏼 All of their vets throughout their lives always asked me what I was feeding them ? All ❤️ ❤️❤️

Dakota is a beautiful dog indeed, thanks for cooking her human great food, she’s truly a part of your family .There are two things I wanna talk about though…Salt should be with iodine, very important, the other is eggshells should be rinsed and baked in the oven for about 20 minutes on 350 Fahrenheit and then you make them into powder. Best thing for oil is to add them at the time of feeding …Oil becomes rancid easily…No canola oil or corn, stick with the other oils they are better..

Do you think I can replace salmon with maybe sardines or trout? Is easier for me to find it here. Thanks! PS. Dakota is the most beautiful girl i've seen she doesn't look almost 14!!

Chicken is the #1 allergen in dogs and my dog cannot eat it. Are there other organ meats I can use besides chicken?
