Greg Lake. His bass playing is amazing on In the Court of the Crimson King (1969).

Should have included John Wetton. He's famous for the supergroup Asia, and "Heat of the Moment." But few know him for his masterful bass work for King Crimson. His bass playing was like a flying brick wall.

How would you rate Rory's bass player Gerry McAvoy? a bit early, blues rock?

Trevor Bolder joined Uriah Heep after its prime, succeeding John Wetton and Gary Thain. Especially the latter was superior. Still few behs players are familiar with him.
Two other ones who aren't mentioned often enough are Gary McAvoy and Michael McKeegan. Kudos to those who know (without looking them up) in which bands they play(ed).
So that's three names for you.
Kudos for mentioning Ray Shulman.

I was sorely disappointed in your lack of knowledge about Doug Wimbish. He was a member of Tackhead. Then part of the house band for On'U'Sound dub & Reggae label. Always collaborating with Skip, ( Little Axe), McDonald, & Keith Le Blanc.
