Former President Trump defends tariffs at debate with VP Harris

Trump defended his plans to enact tariffs on imports from other countries during the debate with Harris. “We’re doing tariffs on other countries. Other countries are going to finally, after 75 years, pay us back,” Trump said. “The tariff will be substantial in some cases.” He doubled down on his tariff policy proposals later in the debate.

Other countries don't pay the tariffs. We do. Americans and American businesses. So how are other countries going to finally pay us back? Is Trump really this stupid?

No business is going to sell their product for a loss so when a tariff is imposed one of 2 things happens 1) the business decides to not sell their product in the US and the consumer can't buy the product. 2) The company raises the price by whatever the tariff is and the consumer the pays the tariff. Republicans claim to be business experts yet they don't understand basic high school economics? Imposing a tariff is kind of like starting a War its something you do as a last resort when there are no other options. Do you think going to war with China is a good idea? No they are almost as powerful as us could do great damage economically. We need to develop our competative businesses/bring outsourced jobs back before we impose tariffs.

People look up the historical outcome of a Tarriff on foriegn goods. People dont spend more on something simply because it costs more they will go with the best value for the money. American products are insanely tarriffed in other countries. Thats why they only really sell in america. You dont see mustangs in europe.
